Menem:
Common risk factors associated with ESBL Colonization:
  • Prolonged Hospitalization
  • Long Term Care Facility Resisdency
  • Indwelling Catheter
  • Ventilator dependence
  • Age < 12 wks
  • Low birth weight
  • Nasogastric tube
  • Severity of Illness
Indications:
  • Intra abdominal infections
  • Bacterial Meningitis
  • Nosocomial pneumonia
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Septicaemia
  • Empiric Antibiotic therapy in Febrile Neutropenia
Dosage and Administration:
Adult Dose:
Pneumonia
 500 mg/1g IV every 8 hrs.
UTI
 500mg/IV every 8 hrs.
Peritonitis
 1g IV every 8 hrs.
Neutropenia
 1g IV every 8 hrs.
Septicaemia
 1g IV every 8 hrs.
Meningitis
 2gm IV every 8 hrs.

Paediatric Dose:
3 months - 12 yrs.
 10-40 mg/kg IV every 8 hrs.
Below 3 months
 Not recommended
