  • A 100 fold increase in inoculumn size results in reduced MIC as well as MBC value with netilmicin than with amikacin or gentamicin.
  • Exhibits highest sensitivity for Acinetobacter than amikacin and amoxycillinclavulanic acid
  • Netilmicin and Piperacillin were found to be the most effective drugs for S. aureus and P. aeruginosa.
OD Dose Provides:
  • Minimal renal cortical uptake and thus decreases nephroloxicity
  • Low perilymph levels results in lesser incidence of ototoxicity
  • Good Post antibiotic effect which suppresses bacterial regrowth even at sub MIC drug level
Indications:
  • Septicemia
  • Febrile Neutropenia
  • Intra Abdominal Sepsis
  • Endocarditis
  • Meningitis
Dosage:
Adults Complicated UTIs
 4 to 6 mg/kg/day
Serious life threatening infections
 6 to 7.5 mg/kg/day
Children (6 weeks through 12 years. of age)
 6 to 7.5 mg/kg/day
Premature of full term Neonates (<1 week of age)
 6 mg/kg/day
Neonates over one week of age
 7.9 to 9 mg/kg/day

Maintenance Dose every 8 hours = Observed CCr* / Normal CCr x Usual Maintenance Dose

CCr = Creatinine clearance rate in mL/min/1.73m2.
